Trench Rescue Technician

On Friday 06/09/2023, Members from Blandon Fire Company joined alongside crews from Philadelphia Fire Dept, Reading Fire Dept, Allentown Fire Dept, Scranton Fire Dept, Bethlehem Fire Dept, Chester Bureau of Fire, Pottstown Fire Dept, Bucks County Special Ops, and Virginia Task Force 2, to complete a 48 hour NFPA 1006 Trench Rescue Technician course over the past week. This course enhances rescuers ability to perform critical skill sets to meet the intent of NFPA 1006 Chapter 11 Trench Technical Rescuer at the Awareness, Operations, and Technician levels. During this course, rescuers reviewed trench extrication theories, shoring techniques, and challenges to accurately and safely execute the skill sets required for professional certification. Topics included rescue incident management, trench configuration/soil types, extrication strategies and tactics, resource management, stabilization/shoring systems, hazard identification and control, shoring panel construction, technical rescue equipment identification and application, patient removal methods/selection criteria, basic patient care, packaging, and removal, basic and advanced shoring techniques, and applicable OSHA/NFPA laws and standards. #blandonfire
